(no subject)

Hi! I'm back a day and a half ago. And poking my grubby fingers around [livejournal.com profile] otana 's journal and stealing all her valuables. Like this one:

Give me a fictional character from a fandom you know I'm apart of and I'll tell you the following

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Scattershot!

[identity profile] therixkeycopy.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

I definitely like Scattershot! He's actually one of my favorites from that team, which sort of surprised me because while I don't always dislike those of Scattershot's character-type, I don't usually pay them much mind either.

I don't know, there's just something about how he genuinely doesn't give a shit about what anyone thinks and is not afraid to let the whole universe know it, and not because he's angry with the world or insecure or anything like that, but because he's just so confident in himself that he doesn't have the time or patience for anyone who isn't. He's not stupid, but he doesn't think about his actions as much as he should and he doesn't care to, he's loud and rude and combative, and he's perfectly willing to mow down anyone standing in the way of whatever he wants accomplished without apology or even a second glance. You don't usually see many characters like him in the Autobots without some Freudian Excuse or two (Slingshot, I'm looking at you), and that makes him interesting.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Um. No? Maybe? For an episode or two?

...Does this series even have a plot?

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

Not in the least! Scattershot's very nearly the antithesis of my whole entire personality, even including the bits and pieces I've made up in my head-canon. I can force myself to look at things the way I think he would when I write him, because that's what I need to do in order to write, but I can't personally understand them. He oftentimes makes me want to hide my head under a pillow.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

The fandom is simultaneously one of the friendliest and one of the bitchiest fandoms I've ever encountered. I love it, though I'm horribly shy and quiet and don't participate much. I lurk everywhere though.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I don't actually ship him with anyone. I honestly can't see him, the way I write him, being particularly interested in a romantic relationship with anyone either. He's too much of a force of nature.

I'm especially fascinated by his general everything with Afterburner though. It's not so much an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object as it is an unstoppable force meeting another unstoppable force. Lots of explosions. Lots of chaos. Lots of violence. Neither ever really burning out. It's awesome.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Um. No, not really. Considering the series there wasn't much there to start with anyway, and removing any of his faults would make him less interesting.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I probably wouldn't have much to do with him, just because he's not the sort of person I'd appreciate in real life very much if I had to spend a lot of time around him, and also because I'm too content to stay the hell out of the way.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

He's not one of my all-time favorites, but he's not a least favorite either. I like him, that's about it.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

Considering he only shows up in the less popular G3 and characters aren't given much depth outside of some rare cases? Probably not. I'd happily ramble about him, but it would come with multiple warnings that 95% of Transformers Truth is fanon and the cartoon is there to sell toys.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Nope. Him and his team are pretty obscure, though there have been some definite gains in popularity since I started writing them a couple years ago.

This is really interesting! I'm kinda like that no-shipping-wise with Razorclaw. There are people I'd like to see him interact with, but shipping? Not so much. :/9

Are the Technobots your favourite of the gestalts do you think?

[identity profile] therixkeycopy.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Razorclaw! I love your Predacons. |D That fic you wrote with them semi-recently was amazing.

I think the Technobots are my favorite team to an extent, yes. At the very least they're dead even with the Aerialbots. I just write the jets so often because I'm more comfortable with them (and because I want to give Skydive screen-time).

Welcome back! *glomples*

First Aid ^^

[identity profile] therixkeycopy.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

First Aid's my least favorite of the Protectobots. This doesn't mean I don't like him. His ideological beliefs are interesting and he's always fun to write just because he generates so many of his own problems. His pacifism is only one catalyst that might be exploited when a writer seeks to make First Aid's life as miserable as possible. His very personality - soft-spoken, gentle, occasionally prone to self-doubt but still strong-willed in his own way - places him at odds with a good majority of his whole world, which can be endlessly fun to mess around with.

And I want to hug him. A lot. Which I mostly blame you for.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Um. Once, I think. The Protectobots as a whole are generally more important than any one individual.

Oh G1. You and your toy-selling ways.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

I can relate to First Aid's hidden sort of will, buried under how soft-spoken and almost meek he can seem at first glance. I can't understand his pacifistic tendencies though. Not wanting to hurt people, yes. But not fighting even when you and your friends are being shot at? No. That can make him a challenge to write at times since I usually get to a point where any other character (and the author) would be shouting for blood, and First Aid's like, "but I don't want to hurt anyone D8" and I'm like ARGH.

His emotional grip on me mostly stems from knowing that First Aid is completely unsuited for the position he's in. He's a great medic, yes, but he shouldn't be in a war. It makes me want to snuggle him. And also rub my hands together in giddy glee, because he's so fun to write because of it.

And I am a horrible person inside.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

The fandom is simultaneously one of the friendliest and one of the bitchiest fandoms I've ever encountered. I love it, though I'm horribly shy and quiet and don't participate much. I lurk everywhere though.

I've also been in it for about four years now. My attention span is shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I don't actively ship him with anyone, but I've seen him paired with some characters that made me go, "oh, that's interesting."

So far the list is Swindle, Sunstreaker, and Topspin from [livejournal.com profile] idiosyn's universe.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

I think fandom's favorite idea of First Aid's pacifism is that, push comes to shove, he'll pull the trigger, but I kind of prefer a First Aid who can't bring himself to consciously hurt anyone at all, no matter what the circumstances. That's fanon though, and I wouldn't really change it. Especially since some delicious stories can come from the former scenario.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I think I'd get along with him. We probably wouldn't be friends, neither of us are really assertive enough or have enough in common to make that step I think, but nodding acquaintances at least.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

He's a member of one of my all-time favorite teams and I love him, but he himself is not one of my all-time favorite characters. I have too many shoved into those positions already.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

I would definitely hype First Aid up, mostly because the Protectobots are pretty popular and First Aid's probably the most well-known of them, which makes him a good place to start easing into the fandom.

And I have a good author to point them toward first :)

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Actually, yes. I think so, at least.

[identity profile] kalaryx.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think fandom's favorite idea of First Aid's pacifism is that, push comes to shove, he'll pull the trigger, but I kind of prefer a First Aid who can't bring himself to consciously hurt anyone at all, no matter what the circumstances."

I completely agree. I think he might even get as far as raising the gun in a situation where one of his brothers was going to die, but then he'd lower it again. He just wouldn't be able to do it, no matter what, when it really came down to it.

[identity profile] playswithworms.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Whee for the "making First Aid's life completely miserable and requiring of hugs" club! \o/ I have to cheat on the pacifism when I write him and make it a function of his programming that even he's kind of annoyed with.

Four years! Now that's some impressive attention span, right there :P

and I see what you did thar in #9 ^_^ <3

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

Don is my favorite of the turtles and always has been (surprise, surprise). I've always been partial to the characters that kind of fade off into the background, particularly the geeky ones. It's a thing.

I guess I find him the most fascinating because he doesn't have as loud or bold a personality as the other three, but still has one, and how it's not completely wrapped around his status as resident smart guy and pacifist.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Fairly important. He's one of the main characters after all.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

The reason I liked Don so much as a kid was because I related to him the most. I'm no genius or tech whiz or anything, but I'm quiet and like being off by myself, and I like to avoid conflict when I can. I sympathize with Don the most of all of them, which yes, means he also grips me emotionally. It's really easy for me to understand - or at least think I understand since I can't really know and I might be wrong anyway - why he doing something and how he feels when he's doing it. My heart was breaking for him in the 07 movie, let me tell you |D

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

I'm actually not really apart of it; so I don't know.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

No.

Platonically, his relationship with his brothers fascinated me the most, all equally but for different reasons. I admit I like seeing him interact with Raph most of all though, just because you don't usually see much of it in any of the multiple series very often.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Nope.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I think I'd get along okay with him. Not best friends or anything, but I don't think we'd hate each other.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Yes. Yes he does.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

I'd actually probably prattle about all of the main four equally if I was telling someone about TMNT |D It's kind of hard to talk about one without the other, particularly since my favorite turtle isn't going to be someone else's favorite turtle.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

He has a following the same as his brothers.

Ahhhhhhhhh RICKY I LOVED YOUR DON SO MUCH ;A;

I am absolutely positive that we would never have gotten another Don as good as yours.

[identity profile] mjfastlane.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee, meme! Um, how about Skydive?

[identity profile] therixkeycopy.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

Skydive competes with Silverbolt for the spot of my favorite Aerialbot. I really like Skydive, mostly because of the previously mentioned fondness for geeky characters who tend to hang around in the background more than anything else. Doesn't hurt that Skydive's a nerd who can also kick some serious aft. You break that mold, Skydive!

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

No. Not even in the episodes he appears in except maybe as an arm, but any character could have taken his place without much changing, so...

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

I can and I can't. We have similar characteristics in some ways but mostly for different reasons; so I end seesaw between either relating to him too much or too little. (It makes writing him difficult.)

I think he does grip me emotionally, yes. Sometimes. When I manage to click with his character.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

*copies and pastes shamelessly*

The fandom is simultaneously one of the friendliest and one of the bitchiest fandoms I've ever encountered. I love it, though I'm horribly shy and quiet and don't participate much. I lurk everywhere though.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I'm not particularly interested in shipping Skydive with anyone, at least not to OTP extents, but I like shoving him with Onslaught every now and then for fun and lulz. Or one of his teammates, like Slingshot or Silverbolt or Air Raid. Not really, though.

I like Skydive's relationship with all of his team, but particularly Slingshot.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

I wish he'd been given a little more depth in his appearances, but there's nothing I would really change, no. G1. Not much to change.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I can see myself getting along really well with Skydive, if only because neither of us would probably really be interested in conversation and could exist in the same room in harmony as long as there was something to read. And I wouldn't mind listening to him ramble, so.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on where Silverbolt is that week.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

By himself? No. He doesn't show up enough and he's the first Aerialbot to get the shaft when people write fics about them. So. I'd definitely make sure to mention him though. Geeky, badass should not be overlooked, oh no.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

As apart of the Aerialbots, yes. As a character by himself, no.
